It's Christmas week & everyone hopes for a white Christmas, but the wildlife really has to adapt to the changes that occur this time of year. Merry Christmas everyone!!

About every TV show personality puts a name to their bucks, so this is the first time I've ever dubbed a name on a deer. I present to you The Kidney Stone Buck, named from my recent kidney stone surgeries. I had planned on hunting this stand on the day this picture was taken as the wind would have been perfect. However, I was recovering from surgery and prior to the rifle season, I pulled my cameras and low and behold this nice shooter walked under my stand as I was laid up recovering. Hince, The Kidney Stone Buck. Yes, this is on public hunting grounds; and unlike hunting TV projects, there are not bucks like this in every walkin hunting area. I fact with the heavy, heavy pressure on all public hunting options for the regular guy, a buck like this was not located by chance, alot of work went into capturing this photo. Thank you Cuddeback!

It never ceases to amaze me how powerful a whitetails nose is. The branch all three are sniffing has orbital gland scent on it. I put it there in October 17 on opening day of bow season. Amazing.

I have two Cuddeback cameras which I alternate up on a mountain near where I live. This site has been used by me since 2013 and has provided some very nice shots. I have tried before to put them on your competition website but without success. It really surprises me that SOUTH AFRICA is not included in your list of countries around the world. South Africa is a prime destination for wild life tourism and although it is a much smaller country than the US I am quite sure it has a much more varied population of wildlife. I have attached a close-up of a male Common Duiker taken a few weeks ago which I would like you to enter in the competition. This species is a solitary buck which stands about 50 cms at the shoulder and is distributed widely around South Africa. The name Duiker means diver and is used because of the habit of this buck dodging and diving when chased. I live in Somerset West a smallish town about 50kms from Cape Town on the southern tip of South Africa.

My Dad and I caught two Northerns ice fishing last winter. My dad had seen a Fisher during deer season so after filleting the fish I placed the guts in the woods close to where he had seen it hoping to get a picture of him. Sure enough he was there within a day and somehow managed to haul the frozen guts away. I'm sure he was very happy!

Now that the rut is over for the elk, it's a great time to get the Cuddebacks out because the Bulls are hanging out in bachelor herds making for some amazing photographs! These elk elk have moved down from the high country and are wintering near Snowmass, Colorado.
