Sri Lankan leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya) from Wilpattu National Park, Sri Lanka. Here's an adult male leopard posing for my camera while patrolling his territory. Captured during a survey of the leopard population in Sri Lanka's largest national park, Wilpattu National Park.

Neighbor's cat catching and eating butterflies, of all things. Hemp-agrimony (Eupatorium cannabinum) is a late-summer magnet for the larger butterfly species. Makes for a nice change from the usual backyard deer parade.

I installed nest boxes and camera traps to monitor offspring feeding rates in order to study the role of landscape context for the benefits of wildflower fields in promoting insect diversity and thus, food provisioning of farmland birds during their reproduction. I observed strong competition for nest resources among Passer montanus, Parus major and Cyanistes caeruleus. In the photos, P. montanus couple empties a nest box that was previously occupied by P. major cleaning out several eggs and the birds themselves.

I have been trying to study the Biodiversity of the Christian Medical College's new campus at Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, India. On the first day of setting it up. Call it beginners luck or whatever. It was a pregnant Small Indian Civet and a Jungle Cat.

A stand off between a royal Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris) and a sloth bear (Melursus ursinus): No one did defeat the other, they both get tired and moved away. However in this amazing picture it seems like both moving together peacefully!

Out in the bush we saw something whooshing away from a fresh kill. Always having some Cuddeback cameras in the vehicle, we set some around this black-faced impala. The cheetah obviously got itself a nice dinner there. Cheetahs are quite rare in our study area. So this was an exciting observation. This a free-ranging individual, not living in captivity and clearly a good hunter even in some thick bush areas.
